*I wrote this for my English class- Had to write an Edgar Allen Poe type horror/gothic piece

And the clock still is ticking,
always clicking
Spinning, spiraling towards my end
a certainty on which we do depend

I hear the clock is chiming,
and I hear its distant timing
Always so deftly defined,
as I sit here so resigned

I see my end approaching
I see the guards encroaching
I see those deathly gallows,
oh, so deftly hallowed

I see Lucifer diverting,
all the while converting,
a steady stream of my precious tithes
All I can do is sin and writhe

The jingle of my cursed chains,
liquefies my brittle brain
The time is now
where I must bow
To my God....
So help me God

And I see those gaunt gallows protruding,
as I stand there discomposedly brooding
All the while desperately composing
a state of mind so imposing,
it silently swelled my mind
and swallowed all it could find

As I stood on gallows row
I wish you all to know,
I stood with fear, side-by-side
For death was near, with nowhere to hide

As life leaked from the gallow
I did not remain so shallow;
I died there with composure intact
while waiting for the sudden impact

All the while the clock was ticking,
always clicking
Spinning, spiraling towards my end
a certainty on which we do depend

I hear the clock is chiming,
and I hear its distant timing
Always so deftly defined,
as I stand here so resigned

I see my end approaching
I see the guards encroaching
I see those deathly gallows,
oh, so deftly hallowed

Definitely Poeish in nature. It's good, just not my style!

Goal, Reached.

Reminded me of "The Raven." The poetic structure, I mean. Not the storyline.

I recommend you read Poe's: "The Cask of Amontillado."

Damn that man, and his grotesque genius.

I've read this twice now, and it both times had me thinking of a prisoner on death row, awaiting execution. Not sure if thats what you were going for chris, but thats the beuty of interpretation! Well done

Briliance!

Most poems have that obscure feel to them. You read them over and over but you do not understand what the point is, or what they are talking about. This does not follow that.

This is a great poem, and in fact, I would say it is as good as any Edgar Alan Poe poem I have read.
