I had arrived in a futuristic world, a world where a time traveling camera could sit in a corner, collecting dust and the walls served as the camera's viewing screen. As I sat, marveling at the equipment, only able to contemplate their uses, I detected arguing in an adjacent room.

I moved so my view peered into the room; my eyes revealed a man and a woman standing across from each other exchanging harsh words. Spontaneously, I observed the woman burst out of the house and into a nearby vehicle. The man sat down and broke down.

He began shuddering: "No where to go... No where to hide... I'm trapped... I'm trapped." As I rested there, confounded, I decided that I should follow the women. A split second later, I was standing slightly beside her. She was conversing with several other ladies, who were situated behind a counter.

I glanced above my position and saw a silvery sign: Women's Rights Centre. I stood there perplexed. Surely, in the future men and women would be equal... Why is it necessary for such a group?

I watched as the wife and the several female officers left the Centre. As I stood there, I attempting to find a male officer, but none were visible. I decided to join the desolate man in the house again. As my surroundings re-focused, I saw the man still sitting in his seat, still mumbling to himself: "Nowhere to go... Nowhere to hide... No one will help me..." This was most perplexing to me. He had not killed his wife, it was only an argument, it was as if he was pleading for his life.

Suddenly the door was kicked down. All the officers I had previously observed rushed in, quite unnecessarily it seemed to me. The man had not even moved off his chair let alone barricaded himself anywhere, but then again, I hadn't a clue what the rules of this new world were. The female officers surrounded the man accompanied by his wife, standing away at a "safe" distance: "Your wife says that you were going to leave her. She says you no longer love her. Why is that?"

"She isn't loving back. She just uses me for chores... that's not what she promised me," the man murmured in a disheartening voice.

"So you're guilty?" the officers asked, without a second thought at his words.

"As guilty as a Medieval woman," he answered with that same blank voice and stare.

"Take that back, you bastard!!" the officers demanded. The man just sat there, "Damn it! Take it back!"

"No....." A flash erupted. From what I cannot say, but it killed the man instantly. He slumped sideways, and slid off his seat.

"What a heretic," one of the officers said, breaking the tension that accompanied a lethal police action. The remaining people were standing awkwardly. Suddenly:

"What did he mean by Medieval woman?" the wife inquired.

"Sounded like a play on words to me," an officer uneasily answered.

"Oh, I thought it meant something," the wife replied.

"Oh you're here Sam!" replied a girl walking into her family room.

"Yep, just checking out your new computer game. What is it? The Sims Future Edition?" the boyfriend asked.

"Yep, my new game."

Interesting reversal of roles in a future setting. I almost felt that certain cultures today were the basis of the allegory. I'm not certain that the ending, with the game, was even necessary as it takes away something...

Ok i see that now. The emphasis on arriving in a world with a camera in a corner, I didn't pick up on that first time =)
