September 1896

Do You Know Me?

We sit together in maths and I let you cheat

In the morning I give you the answers for our homework

I laugh at your jokes

And give advice about your problems.

The bell rings

End of class

You jump out of your seat

And run out to meet your mates.

We’re partners in science

I let you dissect the animals

And do the fun stuff

While I write up the results

The bell rings

End of class

You snatch up your books

And run to your bag

We catch the same bus

And get off at the same stop

We both sit at the back

And listen to the chatter of the same people

The bus stops

Time to get off

I leave first and wait for you

But you run off home

I watch you

I help you

I talk to you

I love you

I know you love soccer

You like the Beatles

You are mad about cars

You love to eat Weet-Bix in the morning

But do you know me?

What’s my favourite band?

Do I love cars?

What do I have for breakfast?

Do you love me?

Does your heart quicken when I sit next to you?

Do you hang on my every word?

Are you sad when I’m not there?

The formal comes along

I’m all butterflies.

I tell myself it’s stupid

But I hope.

Recess

You swagger over to where I sit

You lean down and ask me…

“Do you know what Em’s doin’ for the formal”

I smile

I answer with a mock pout

“What about me?”

You laugh. So do I

I sit in the hot bath

Dad’s razor on the floor

My blood runs down my arms

But it’s really on your hands.

engaging

strange how one so close can be so far...

another strange things is that in the years to come, after the all of the fluff goes away, that suicide victim will typically come out the winner.

and, just in case you were wondering - yes, i googled Weet-Bix to find out what it is...

write on!
