Long I waited fearing, peering Long I waited drearing, hearing Long I stared through darkness seering Seely* from the days of past Looking through my looking glass seeing things from within things I feared through all my days Seeing them right through the haze Awoke my fears from their bind Forcing them out of mind, I heard a bugle of strange kind Rank and rank of angry men Came ‘round the illustrious bend Cantering through my battered brigade I witnessed history being made As fast as it started I would find, I lost my body soul and mind I found this writ upon the grave, Of a begotten son who only gave A life to kill these forgotten knaves
