1. Was listening to "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" as I wrote this. I was listening to the Creedence Clearwater Revival version, the one McCallum was listening to in his room. It's my preferred version, as well. Though, I also like the take on it by The Slits.
2. "Why, Ms. Vivian, what a narrow tie you wear?" is a reference to a quote by famous composer Bernard Herrmann (most known for his score for Hitchcock's "Psycho"). The quote of Herrmann's goes as follows, "Your views are as narrow as your tie." Thus referencing the narrowness of the view that all women are conniving.
