It's hard to stick with it.    Overall, as an opening to a bigger piece, I'm not sure whether I would continue reading it (I'm going to regardless, but for the sake of being an unprompted reader). I'm thinking that I would open up the second part and skim it to see if more happens in the way of action or character, as opposed to conceptual things.    I did like the ending though.
