It feels like a shoe that fits to me.    You really have to wonder why more old women aren't like this.    Don't force dialogue. You can create breaks without putting them in text. Separate some things like this to create a natural break or awkwardness;  "Good day," she said, grabbing her purse as my foot fidgeted.
