What are the credits for?

Ouch.I deserved that.
What I meant is that it would have been better if you had to use the points to post a story.Lets say five points.That would have meant users would have to comment.It was just an idea.It was a good idea though.

Oooh...Flossy that's a good idea. Would keep several things from happening, first off, it would keep people from posting like 30 stories in one day, and it would keep them from posting crap. Or at least they would think twice before posting crap. And it would make members be an active part of the community.

I know that I read the "rules" for the credits, but my thought is....are we really allowing people to pay for "advertising" their story on the front page? Doesn't that mean that legitimate stories that are actually worth something won't be posted there? I mean I don't know about you, but I would rather have GOOD stories on the front page of my website. Not sure how to quantify that....but buying my way there means that I haven't earned the right to be there....does anyone understand what I am saying? Does anyone agree with me?

I totally agree with you! Besides, if my story wasn't good, whoah, what an embarassment to have it advertised. You'll get more negative comments, etc...

Points well taken. Thanks for the feedback!

First off, let me clarify a few things:
At the moment, the members can only post up to 2 stories per day without using their credits. They are allowed to submit more if they are willing to use the credits.

You do not pay for the credits. You earn them by actively participating in our community. Of course, you can also donate and earn credits. But it is considered as a donation, not a purchase. I don't think Allmine was actually confused about it, but I just wanted to clarify this, so no one will have a wrong impression about the credit system.

Now let's move on to the hot issue of the day -
It seems like many members are displeased by the increased volume of new stories being posted per day and their qualities. Even with the daily limit of 2 stories, we are averaging about 15-20 stories per day. It's probably not the biggest number compared to some of the other websites, but I assume it is big enough to make some of the members feel that their recently posted story did not get all the attentions it deserved.

That's what really pushed us to develop the credit system. The basic concept behind it was - the more active you are in our community, the more exposure your stories will receive. When it comes to deciding what's good and what's crap in the qualities of the stories, I don't see the way of determining that other than handpicking them myself as an unbiased party. Of course, I can do that (as I used to before), but I don't think the majority of the members will appreciate that. By placing the promoted stories on the font page, it will hopefully enable the stories from the active members to receive more hits regardless of how many new stories are posted.

The truth is that we don't want to discourage anyone from posting their stories whether they are active members or not. We just want to grant more exposure to the members who are willing to take time to support other members. I understand it is a new system, so let's give it a couple of days and see how it plays out. If it fails miserably, we can always try something else.
