Re:What Happened to Storiesville? 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hey..we set some limits and get some honest to goodness people here who comment with good comments and take the time to submit good stories...and I'll be back here. Have to admit, I float around the site, but I haven't been very active lately cause of the fact that I feel like I have to shove my way in to be heard. That and it's hard to comment on crap. How about one free submission and the rest cost points? Cause there might be someone out there with a fantastic story.

I know that Flossy talked about a grace period and the admin wasn't for it, but back in the day, if we had submitted a story to post, it took it a couple of days to make it onto the site. Same difference. I remember holding my breath until my story was posted, hoping that it would make it.

Let's just say, if there were less stories to wade through, I would read more of them. Also, I am getting used to the new format, and I am also glad to see that you do listen to us Mr Admin....

Okay..I'll shut up now....

I think go with the first idea, that you can post two a day. I think this will encourage the most user participation by making people comment and get points if they really wish to post multiple times, like chapters in a series. But they still have the option of not commenting on others work if they so desire, and that should be a choice. The second idea sort of forces people to comment in order to post, which might turn people away and takes away the free to use membership' feel of the site.

How about something like this? You have to use 3 credits for submitting your first story of the day. Then if you wish to submit additional stories, it costs 5 credit points for the second one. Then 10 credits for submitting more. Dirk has a point about stories in series. Some members like to post their series close to each other, so it will be easier for the readers to move on to the next one.

The way I look at it is that we are not trying to limit the number of submissions per day. We are trying to find a way to increase the number of comments and other activities at the same rate as the website expands. So if a member really wants to post 5 stories on a given day, he or she would have to post 38 comments which must be longer than 150 characters in length.

I think if somone uses credits to pay their way on the home page it should be noted somewhere on their entry.

I still think at least one story a day should be free, then the next 3 points etc... Maybe I'm outvoted lol, I comment enough not to worry about points I just think not everyone likes to comment so the choice should be there for them. Im not really that fussed though, so bring on the new system!

We could automatically give 3 credit points to the user account as soon as a new user signs up for the membership. Then the member will be able to post one story without commenting, but he or she will have to accumulate additional credit in order to post additional stories.

Any other suggestions? I am currently making a to-do list for myself, and I will try to implement these changes by some time in the mid July. So if you have your two cents, now's the time.

Have you taken a look on the forum 30 Chapter, 30 Storiesville Writers. Some people are pushing for a Contest to be held here on this site.
