Four score and seven something or other... seriously..This site exploded in growth, thats all that happened. When that happened, we got a lot of new people who didn't have the connection that the core group had. Also, with all the new people came a lot of stories flooding the site. The new core didn't realize the path we had woven...but growth can be good.
Before, no story was really that long...2000 words was extreme, but it was read more times then not. Now, this site see's stories that are ridiculously long. I personally don't have the patience to read stories of great length on a computer, and pretty much everyone else felt the same way...if you got a review, it was probally BS...I think its the same still.
Before, the old core submitted a story every so often, giving others as well as yours a longer stay on the main page. Now, we get stories from one person who submits 3 up to 14 chapters all at once. I don't see the over 10 as often these days...but we still get up to 3 in a row...it just turns people off. This is a community for everyone,,,its not a site just for you who are quilty of that act...be fair. Also, when you start seeing stories that have no merit in value knock off stories from authors that actually try...its a turn off again from the site. So what happens is that authors who believe in their work(be as it may good or bad) leave and the site slowly becomes a farce. Stories like 'The beast and the tag of von' something like that, and 'The deer have eyes''bad grammar'and other stupid stories that are meant only for shock value and bad laughs take this site to a lower level.
Before, we had our sole scarlet lorislilsecret to keep us entertained with the soft tasteful porn stories. Now, we get the graphic discriptions of sex which take no talent to write... but to be fair, that seems to have gone away.
I don't begrudge any person who joins this site, quite the contrary, growth is good, its welcomed. Growth means more diversity, which means different styles. If we could all just hold back from submitting that 2nd or 3rd story or poem for at least a couple days, more stories would get read,,,im talking bout your stories and poems people, and also you would have more satisfaction from more hits and comments(hopefully)
Do what Tarhead was doing towards the end. Check out the profile and the comments they have left...if there new to the site,,,give them a little slack but keep an eye out, but if they have been on for awhile and they have little or no comments that they've offered for others... don't even bother with them, they will feel unsatisfied eventually and leave.
Before, the old core would comment on everything that they read,,,and rate it...regardless if they were blowing smoke, at least you felt like what you loved doing was worth it.
Now, only a select few comment, and stories move off the front page way to fast.
Stop submitting garbage, and you know who you are.,,be serious or leave. Not talking bout the stories that may not be very good by authors with lesser talent in story telling...not everyone is equally talented in this field, but at least they are trying, and we know who they are, and they are appreciated.
lastly again...im not preaching trying to make this site all that is right with me, im one of those who probally isn't very talented and so probally won't submit anymore of my stuff,,but i have tried my best to submit stories in the past that could be read by any age group.
To sum it up...shorter stories, lesser submitions by one author at a time, no graphic sex, be it good or bad,,,stories with merit and value from those who are trying, comment on what you read..its only considerate, and a mature understanding that not everyone likes your garbage on here, and be respectful when you do comment when you actually do read someones story or poem. Don't act like you know it all...because you don't, and we all know who they are.
This is storiesville...not bad and lewd jokesville,,,post stuff like that on the forum.

Potter, you speak thy truth you do. I couldnt agree more, I think you may speak for everybody here. Although I am guilty of posting rather long stories on here (i.e. the minorty was exactly 50 pages long typed up

it probally didn't get read then by a lot and the comments may not all be valid,,,to bad..its probally a great story. Cut the chapters down for this site, but keep them how you like them for your own collection... but I know it aint always that easy...my rule of thumb,,and not that it is the right thumb mind you. But a story or chapter around 1500 words is perfect for this site....it doesnt scare people away.

to tell you the truth i had like 20 comments from it and they all seemed like it was read how they worded the reviews, but the other two LONG stories i have up here didnt get many reads (Pain 14 pgs and Taking Lives With .45s 40 pgs) i tried cutting it down, but then the story just wouldnt be ... my story. i cant really describe it. i dont know, im writing a novel now and im posting chapter by chapter (usually one chapter ever two days but sometimes two chapters in two days) and the chapters are maybe at the longest four pages each but most two

I think that some new people coming in are on the non-creative, conventional side of writing. There are some pretty nasty reviewers who, for some reason, believe that the only purpose for writing is to entertain. Of course, there should be exitement and spice in your stories, but I don't think you should go to the extreme of having really specific tastes and expecting others to satisfy those.
A great thing now is that you can delete comments you don't like
For some reason, I think that the fewer people there are, the better.
When I first joined, I felt like I was in a private liberal arts college. Now, it seems more like one of those huge four-year universities, where the quantity of work is valued more than the quality.

Ok I feel the need to put my two cents in. I'm sad when people I like leave because of whatever reasons, but I stay because I honestly enjoy reading other peoples work, and sharing my own. It just is beyond me to keep up with all the new writers, but I try and read random writers as much as I do for the core writers who are my friends. I dont really know if I joined when this site took off, I've only been here since around new years, but I personally can remember shitloads of writers who come for the short while and leave when bored. There is always an influx of new people, and I am glad when they stick around long enough to become part of the crowd (when theyre not jerks). Ok I didnt really say anything of any use but hey I feel better

I felt the need to log in since my name was being bantered about. I watched this site grow from a small community to what it is today. When I joined, and Dirkin, I think you and joined about the same time, you had to be an ACTIVE member to get your story posted. Yes, you would submit your story and if you were lucky, it would be up the next day. Being active meant that you were actually reading and commenting on other's stories.
Yes, I am one of those "core" members that we are talking about. I was very active on here. I commented on a lot, fooled around on the forum a lot, wrote some (my imagination isn't all that great) and was friends with most everyone on here. Did I comment on everyone's stories? Heck no, but not everyone commented on my stories either. Like Potter said, it is really hard to read a long story on here, especially for those of us who have just a few minutes to pop in while we are working.
When Tarhead first left, it made Christian (13), and Potter kinda go into a fit. I felt like I was the last man standing here and I did everything that I could to keep the site what it was in terms of playing games on the forum, keeping the commenting alive, and trying to keep that "you guys are my family" feel to it. This time, Potter, Christian and Tarhead have all gone. I don't have the energy to try and keep it up....does this make any sense?
Yes, I am still here, yes I would love to be more active, but something has got to change, I can't read and comment on 40 stories everyday, especially if they are long ones. And I am a grammmer nazi, so I do pick on that stuff. And what really drives me nuts is spelling errors....especially in the title! Get out the dictionary people!
I am here more than you guys think....I am watching over my shoulder to see where I can stick my two cents in. Lately, I don't want to stick them in anywhere cause nothing deserves it.
So what's my solution? I dunno, maybe I don't have one. Something somewhere has got to give. Having more people on here is great, creates diversity. But I want this to be a serious site, not something just for fun. Fun belongs on the forum. Maybe I am getting old....
BTW...has anyone noticed...I am still the queen? Hahaha...lame joke that you will only get if you have been on here a long time.
Potter, I am glad to see that my story still gets you heated up!
