Justin,
I was born in Burlington and lived there for nine years until my parents dragged me to Florida. I visit relatives up there for weddings and funerals. I'm twice your age so don't go by my stories, but I have written three short stories set in Vermont and my second novel is about lesbians murdering other lesbians near Middlebury. Vermont is a more interesting setting than Florida to write about. There are many prolific and sucessful authors from VT. Except for snowboarding there's nothing to do but write.
Good luck with your writing. I'll try to read a few of your submissions and comment.
JJ
PS. Is Al's French Frys still in South Burlington?
