Problem is, most horror stories get so caught up in the horror that good writing tends to fly out the window.

Horror is hard to do right, I think. It's easy to seem forced or cheesy. You need to have a certain morbid mindset (I'm looking at you zombie)

There is no correct answer for this, sure some writers are excellent at writing horror, not pointing any fingers but they know who they are, and others kind of stumble on to the horror genre and just get started that way with a few good stories then they fall out of the loop with it.

but is that not why we have a writing community? so we can call each other out on our ****? we have to have the balls to take criticism, like you can say, hey ************, you are getting cheesy and ****. and i'd be like "word? well yo mama has a wooden leg with a kickstand" and you'd be like? "oh hell nah" and then we'd call over some mad bitches and drink 40oz's
