Wow Lori, that is so very cool that you use to be a ballerina... such pretty shoes and cute tutus! I want one! Painful work though... I didn't like it that the girl's chests had to be compressed at an early age so that they wouldn't grow (but I understood the reason)... did you ever have to do that? And the calloused feet, oi!

Yes, callused brusied feet..and I have a very big bust (sorry guys) so yes, I used to have to tape myself down. When I was 14 I had knee surgery, ending my potential ballet career. Took me a while to recover from that, and there are still days that I have problems. Had a scholarship to a performing arts college in New York, but didn't go there either. So I worked for a couple of studios in LA, and then when I moved to San Antonio, I worked here for a couple of different studios and then opened my own. I am a decent dancer, but a better choreographer. I can't hear a song without imagining a dance to it of some sort. Dang...I miss it a LOT!!!

well.... at least you did it...even if it's mostly over. That is something. I had to leave behind my dream of being an electrical/comp engineer when things went pear-shaped.... but... there's other stuff I'm planning on doing.

But i hear being a ballerina is very intense and tough. specially building the ankle strength...and the injuries...and...well... you know better than I. hard stuff.

All that painful art developed just so that the Czar could watch Swan Lake or The Nut-Cracker...lol. Well..am glad those crazy aristos patronized the arts.

Yeah I have calves that a football player would envy! Walking in stilletto heels is no problem for me. They say that ballet is as stressful on the body as playing football. Think of all the weight that is compressed onto that one little toe bone...that and the stretching of the muscles and the way you get your body to shape itself. Most ballerinas have horrible arthritis in their 30's. I am no exception!
