I used to use Internet Explorer all the time, from when we had the IBM Thinkpad in 98 until we got a HP laptop. I switched over the Firefox, and I quickly got used to the layout of it. It is so efficient! I have yet to have a problem with it, except when I view pages on Wikipedia and it will freeze for about thirty seconds, but it will allow me to continue browsing after that.

if you have never experienced firefox, i think you should give it a shot.

i think yahoo and netscape are the same - yes? if so, you will find that netscape has dropped out of the browser business and will cease to support their browser (security updates and such).

ie browser is okay - but it is full of holes. and because it's code belongs to microsoft, only their folks can affect it.

one of the things that makes firefox so appealing (other than the freeness) is that the code is public domain - which means that if somebody with developing skills decides he wants to make a change or addition - he/she can.

so PEOPLE are constantly making the browser better. and their site is full of free gizmos that you can add to make their browser better.

but that's not what i came here to talk about.

i was surfing connections and came to this story. i missed it when it loaded, i think, because of the machine gun quality of story loading - there are just so many...

so, that being said, if you enjoy science fiction - or just a darn good, well written story...

read this: Stones Of Time

i think you'll enjoy it.

smile!

Women are nuts... 8 Months, 1 Week ago
that got your attention, didn't it!

that was actually a half truth...

half the women on the planet are nuts.

and i can prove it.

sat down with a glamour magazine today and counted pages of advertisements. just to be a nice guy, i didn't count half pages or less. just full pages.

there are 366 pages in the march mag.
180 of them are full page ads.

51%

the cover price on that mag is 4.00 in the u.s.

now here's the proof that 50% of our wonderful female population is nuts.

the subscription price is $12 per month (and you get a nifty tote).

1,506,953 mags go out every month as a subscript.
755,289 mags go out by way of the newsstand.

half as many women are actually paying 4.00 per issue!!

50%

now, i realize that number is twisted to make me happy - cause the real math brings it to 33% - but let's pretend we don't know that.

i think that's interesting.

now let's look at the bank account...

1,506,953 x 1 = 1,506,953 (gee, that was easy)
755,289 x 4 = 3,021,156

that's 4,528,109 a month...

but we're not any where near done are we?

nope. somebody has to pay for them there ads...

they list the cost on their website.

i came up with 161,220 per one page ad.

and there were 180 full pages of ads...

161,220 x 180 = 29,019,600

plus the measly pittance they get from sales?

33,547,709

that number is just one month, and remember - i didn't count less than one full page ads, and there is hardly a page in that magazine that does not have some kind of advertisement on it.

these folks are making tons of money - hey, what is that a year?

402,572,508

amazing. you would think that with what they make from their advertisers, the mag would be free. they should offer a cute little red Ferrari to go with that cute little red tote!

you want fries with that?
