Best war novels... Well, there was this true one based on the experiences of some German solciers in WW2. I forget the name. Then ... Tripods Trilogy was sort of about a guerilla resistence aganst aliens. and....erm.... Sabres of Paradise wasn't exactly a novel, detailed and mostly true account of the Caucasus wars in the 119th century. What else? cannot remember...

I really liked To make men free by Richard Croker. I'm a bit of a civil war buff. It doesn't compare to The Killer Angels but a really enjoyable book.

On the other end of the spectrum, T really enjoyed Crusader by Michael Alexander Eisner. It will really blow you away with accounts of ebing a crusader, and prisoner of those wars.

So that's what inspired Edwin Starr!

I also like the book "Under the Bleachers" by Seamoore Butts

D'Oh! How could I forget Battle Cry by Leon Uris...

Excellent Marine Corps based novel by a well known if not legendary author.

A World War II story of a bunch of guys from across America coming together and grow into the most elite fighting force and give us great tales of brotherhood and bravery. Leon Uris writes in a way that does not glorify war, but glorifies the men thrust forward to fight them.
