Backwards thinking 1 Year, 1 Month ago
my sweetheart and i were watching something on t.v. when i heard the phrase,

"ran off screaming like a little girl"

and i thought it strange.

seemingly, nobody ever runs off screaming like a little boy except a little boy who, well, runs off screaming like a little girl.

pardon the interruption,
just thought i needed to share that with you -
i will now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

I guess it's not as effective when you are trying to mock someone. kinda like no one ever says "you throw a ball like a boy."

it's all a generalisation or cliche to me.

I loves me some cliche criticism. When taken to the limit…What happens? How can an action burn someone up, unless it was a fire? When someone can’t stand something, does that mean they must, quote “take it lying down”? And when a person’s “had enough” does that mean that they are to “the point of bursting”? What is the point of bursting? Does anyone really know?

i think the point of bursting thing would easily fall into the blow up a balloon thing... it can only take som much before it gets to the point of bursting. pressure thing.

"it's all a generalisation or cliche to me."

i agree. but who makes the rules, is where i was pointing with the thread. how does something become cliche (which in and of itself has value by sheer defination alone) - because, cynically, everything is cliche, and everything is generalized.

i wonder how things manage to stick.
