This was a brilliant snapshot of the treatment our military heroes are dished out, now that they're old. Sad, touching, and posing a lot of awkward questions. The behaviour of the young, scruffy carer; what sort of environment had produced a character with so little to make him proud of himself. Its interesting to see that when a story presents a truthful picture of a modern day situation, it puts a much wider area of modern day living under the microscope. It makes you ask if present day youth would cope as the youth of the 40's coped, and it makes you ask why, and how, we seem so much less caring these days, when we have so much more, or is it only when we're faced with challenge that we show what we're made of. 
Great story.
