About Myself: Married with two wonderful daughters. I have been jotting thoughts for my own amusement and sanity for about 8 years. Thought I'd have a bash more publicly.

Lots goes on inside my bean.

I live in a strange world with a somewhat rarified atmosphere. Sometimes it's fun to not be understood by people.

Sometimes I write from my daydreams, other times I write my own life.

A very well written, emotional piece. I thought that it was beautiful. As I read the beginning, I could relate to the situation that "he" found himself in.
Well done - a cautionary tale.

Michelle,
Much has been said already. Some of it echoing my own thoughts, but I wanted to write them anyway.
I like this story, a lot.
Your description of how “MLH” got herself ready, nervously changing and checking, wanting to look just right for her man was good. Perhaps just a slight rework and tighten of words to convey her nerves a bit more would be in order, but I’m not wanting to criticise.
The way you describe in para.4 of how “JDH” felt about her was excellent.

I’ve not been paying much attention to storiesville of late. I will return and read more of your work soon…

Regards,
Paul

Fair point. Unfortunately poetry isn't my bag.

Good, I liked it. For me it worked on more than one level. It could be about a person - it made me think of my daughter. But to someone like my dear old ma-in-law it would be about her cat!!! I see it more as about anything or anyone that a person would lean to. Does that make sense?

I could really relate to this. Having been right to the bottom myself and climbing the very steep slope back to the top I can empathise with the narrator. You capture the sadness really well - please tell me it's not autobiographical!!

Blinder!
Cracking story, well done. Sucked me right in, I was feeling for the guy just wanting to be alone with his lover. Then wallop, that last paragraph is a killer. Good show...

A good read. I'd love to know how your mind works, I mean where do you find the inspiration to write on such a subject. Moreover how do you expand what seems like something quite simple into a monologue of that quality?
Brilliantly done as always. Bravo.

Probably all I want to say has already been said. A cautionary tale to all of us who know we should take the time, but never make the time to take.
Well written, good twist at the end and a story with a moral!

Phil,
Yes it is Brooklands. I grew up about a mile from the banking and used to play over there a lot as a kid.
I took my 10 year old daughter for a walk around the track last summer. I told her stories of my escapades, she thinks that her old man sliding down in a shopping trolley is hillarious.

Title article: Killing Me Softly

I thought this was good, you see in my mind the ending was going to be very different. Particularly touched a nerve because I am allergic to poignancy. Example, always drive carefully after going to the hospital to see your child born - that's when you are likely to get killed. Avoid being a hero if once you were totally dependant on others you'll end up in a jam.

By the way have you looked at shortstory.us.com yet? no fake money changes hands...
