About Myself: This I Believe…
¨ I believe all people have an equal claim to life, freedom, tolerance and justice – and no law, government, majority, religion, ideology or prejudice can ethically deny, even one individual, equal opportunity to enjoy them.
¨ I believe in the universal application of love, without regard for divisive ideologies that capitalize on differences in race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation.
¨ I believe in an uncompromising commitment to ethics, freedom, equity, equality, justice and tolerance for all. These values should mandate the character of our faith. Any faith, religion, scripture, church or institution, whose teachings or policies threaten the quality of other people’s lives, should be abandoned.
¨ I believe empathy is the most noble of all virtues. It is only by way of empathy with those suffering, disenfranchised or repressed that we can achieve equity in our treatment of others.
¨ I believe there is no higher authority than reason and critical thinking. To question is the answer. Spiritual growth cannot occur unless we continue the search for better answers from a variety of sources. Institutions using sophistry to nurture absolute dogmas only nurture intellectual arrogance, impeding spiritual growth.
¨ I believe demagogic and simplistic answers do not do adequately or equitably address complex problems.
¨ I believe in moral relativism. Absolute dogmas and inflexible rules fail to serve the interests of social justice.
¨ I believe there are only human solutions to human problems. If we cannot do it, it will not get done. Any reliance upon supernaturalism impedes human progress.
¨ I believe that a single well-substantiated fact, irreconcilable with a belief, is sufficient to prove that belief false.

Quite Different
It was very different. I suspected all along he would invite them to eat him. The end didn't surprise me but the story was good and well written. Thanks for the good entertainment.

Predictable
We could see the meeting coming, no surprises there. But I did like the writing. You held my interest to the end and that counts. Keep up the good work and imagination.

Very Good
I don't know much about poetry so I'm really not qualified to criticize it. I just thought it was good. And the hidden messages were quite clever. I lost my wife to cancer 8 years ago so I know the experience well.
Can't see where any god should get praise out of the sad event though.

Title article: The Reluctant Lover

Caught me by surprise.
I didn't see that coming. I like the way you sucked me in and then bang, it suddenly hit me that this guy is a monster. Unfortunately, chains can take many forms. Steel chains are not always necessary. Many women are living in so much fear that they are incapacitated and cannot run even though they could.
Well done.

I was clueless
Well, I read the whole thing thinking that eventually it would make sense. Then I suddenly came to the end of the story with a weird comment about doing this with my kids. I'm sorry friend, I'm clueless. Still, it was well written. Maybe the problem was with me.

A bit of symbolism here?
This certain was a good story. I was caught off guard by the sudden chain of events as he stepped from the shoe store. I didn't see that coming.
You could have taken this story many places but you chose to end it abruptly. Hmmm.

I loved it.

Guess I Missed That
I got the idea Dad was dead but not that she killed him. Still, very good letter with some deep emotion.

Glued to the page to the very end.
