About Myself: I'm a 30-something living in North Carolina. I write for fun, and am looking for some critiques.

My literary heros include Stephen King, Dean Koontz, John Saul, and E.A. Poe. If you are looking for a really good short story, check out Dean Koontz's "Kittens" from his book Strange Highways. Also, check out Raymond Carver's "Little Things" (aka "Popular Mechanics"). And, if you can find it, a short called "The Old Black Hat" by Gary Raisor. Classic.

Also, for reading material, I enjoy comic books. Not only the Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men variety, but also Calvin and Hobbes, Zits, and Non-Sequitor. Some good reading right there, I tell you.

Title article: Questions
Date: 2008-07-12 19:38:22

Yet another thought-provoking poem written with underlying Christian themes. I love those. Some of the rhyming and flowing almost missed its intended mark, but it all worked out well in the end. Good job!

Title article: A Bad Day
Date: 2008-07-12 19:34:29

Yeah, this was pretty good. It was a lot of fun to read, and creatively constructed. I've wanted to write something like that, only in a spiral or something. However, I'm afraid that an undertaking like that would cause my Microsoft Word program to turn in its resignation.
I didn't sing this poem. I don't know the tune. Maybe Punk can help me with it. Is it Happy Birthday?

Title article: Sun and the Moon

I'm with Punk on this one- are you trying to tell us something?
I hate to be critical of the ambiguously suicidal, but, as much as I liked the way you represented the doom, gloom, and hopelessness in your poem, the rhythm was off, and the rhyming, at places, didn't quite make it.
But the line "And still it rains..." was so cool. That was a great line to throw in there.

Title article: The Water Sparkle
Date: 2008-07-12 13:49:30

I absolutely agree with Kasi that it was read like a painting that, on the edge of my memory, I know I've seen before. The linguistic visuals were stunning and well placed. Excellent job.

Title article: A Poetic Response
Date: 2008-07-12 13:45:30

Another great poem, man, especially that last stanza. I know all about that feeling. Writing is a great release, isn't it? Keep up the good work, man.
Oh, yeah, by the way- you're not turning soft on us, are you?

Title article: Personal Evolution
Date: 2008-07-12 13:41:33

I like the flow and the rhyme of this poem, but I don't have a clue what it is that you're trying to say. Obviously you did something wrong, I think. What is it that leaves you so destitute and miserable?

Title article: I'm Losing my Mind
Date: 2008-07-12 13:37:32

I thought this one was pretty decent. I especially like the line "And pain against my skin/ is how I pass the time". Self-mutilation isn't right or good, but that line seems to stand out anyway. Good job.

Title article: A Bright Light Pierces
Date: 2008-07-12 13:29:18

It was pretty well written, but I'm not sure what it was about? Is the writer going through writers block? That's what I get from the last four lines.
Also, call me dense, but are you referring to the sun when you talk of the bright light that pierces the surface of his home?

Title article: Strings
Date: 2008-07-12 13:23:46

I agree that this is an excellent poem. That's exactly how it feels when you know you're about to lose someone that you love- it feels like falling, but not in a good and peaceful way. Good descriptions.

Title article: Something Gross
Date: 2008-07-12 13:21:16

Very juvenile, but a pleasure to read. I can't imagine anyone wanting to stick a pencil up their ass and pinch the eraser off. Is it even possible? Are your rectal muscles strong enough?
