I just wanted to leave it up to the reader. There are more possibilities that way, but one of my buddies did have a good twist. He felt that it was a "test" of some sort that Ken failed since he could not get her to come down, thus leading to his demise. I guess that Anne could be number one now, if that was the case. Thanks for reading and responding.

Life became routine....
I'm glad that you asked that question. I think that the focus on the whole story revolves around that issue. Bob's life was so mundane and he was into such a routine, that he felt obligated (even during a suicide attempt) to follow that routine.
