About Myself: I have a lifelong love of reading and a secret desire to be an author, that my chronic bouts of procrastination have always managed to stall. I read The Lord of The Rings when I was nine, and from that most excellent starting point have always felt my favourite genre to be fantasy, although I consider the definition of fantasy to be as broad as the mind can wander. I would like to recommend the following authors: Brian Lumley, Katherine Kerr, Raymond E Feist, Robert Jordan, Jean M Auel, Anne Rice, Frank Herbert, Isaac Asimov and of course good ol' Tolkein. Wikipedia them or something, they're all excellent storytellers!

Title article: Trained to Kill
Date: 2008-08-25 20:11:40

I sense from the narrator a kind of resigned sarcasm about the trauma he has suffered. I know I wasnt supposed to laugh but this line "I lost my penis to a Vietnamese whore" cracked me up. I could see this poem being played to some metal music.

Title article: No Chivalry
Date: 2008-08-25 20:08:44

I like the story you have told here, and I honestly hope its not drawing from your personal experiences. I would say that this poem is about something concrete, and is relatable to everyone by picturing it hapening to them

Title article: Lighthouse
Date: 2008-08-25 10:28:46

I see this not as a story, but as an expression of pure emotions and feelings. The metaphor of the lighthouse is a good one for expressing loneliness and self loathing. How nice to have a rock to cling to, when so many have none.

Title article: Frustration
Date: 2008-08-25 10:24:20

When I worked the checkout aisle in a supermarket, this is the sort of thing I might have composed in my head as stress relief.

Title article: A Static Reality
Date: 2008-08-25 10:21:32

I have to partially agree with indianaman here, I feel that your message is a little unclear, yet I always remind myself that sometimes poems are too deeply personal to make literal sense to the casual observer.

Title article: A Sigh to Remember
Date: 2008-08-25 10:15:22

The narration style you use is engaging, I found myself pleasantly amused by this. I imagine that the japanese police would not be impressed if the character had been caught! The town sounds like a place to visit, I one day want to go to japan

Title article: Ebony Eyes
Date: 2008-08-25 10:06:59

Enjoyable. I get similar deja vu experiences all the time, although I never have songs interfering with the radio. How sad for the main character to save them all and die nonetheless

Title article: Unpredictable Suicide
Date: 2008-08-25 09:57:07

Very good. I wonder what monster the father was consumed by. I felt a sense of the tragedy that comes with the loss of innocence. Well told

Title article: The Possessor of All, Chapter 2
Date: 2008-08-24 22:12:49

I liked the gentle nature of the wizard, made him seem very pure, to consider the pain of the herb. I would consider having something happen before you say 'to be continued' anything at all that hints at the next chapter enough to keep the reader wanting to read on
I love the name of the horse Marantha, such an original name

Title article: Her Face -- A Haiku
Date: 2008-08-24 21:59:51

I pictured my girlfriends face when I read this. If a haiku paints a mental picture, this one succeeded perfectly

Yeah, it's gonna have a lot more of a fantasy plot. I'm about to start the prologue in a little bit, and work out the plot some more.

Hehe enjoy! I think it turned out great.

There is a sequel in the talks. You think you'd be interested in doing another chapter?

Very nice work Dirkin. You should update that blog, I'll would be glad to link up. But, that's beside the point. You keep on writing, you're doing a hell of a job.

Okay, here's a better one:

Why don't Monsters eat Clowns?
Because they taste funny.

Heh...
Feedback from Mugen (Dirkin): Hmm i don't know any mexican jokes... (aussie), try this: why did the boy fall off the swingset? he had no arms.
