About Myself: I'm a 30-something living in North Carolina. I write for fun, and am looking for some critiques.

My literary heros include Stephen King, Dean Koontz, John Saul, and E.A. Poe. If you are looking for a really good short story, check out Dean Koontz's "Kittens" from his book Strange Highways. Also, check out Raymond Carver's "Little Things" (aka "Popular Mechanics"). And, if you can find it, a short called "The Old Black Hat" by Gary Raisor. Classic.

Also, for reading material, I enjoy comic books. Not only the Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men variety, but also Calvin and Hobbes, Zits, and Non-Sequitor. Some good reading right there, I tell you.

Title article: I'm Losing my Mind
Date: 2008-07-12 13:37:32

I thought this one was pretty decent. I especially like the line "And pain against my skin/ is how I pass the time". Self-mutilation isn't right or good, but that line seems to stand out anyway. Good job.

Title article: A Bright Light Pierces
Date: 2008-07-12 13:29:18

It was pretty well written, but I'm not sure what it was about? Is the writer going through writers block? That's what I get from the last four lines.
Also, call me dense, but are you referring to the sun when you talk of the bright light that pierces the surface of his home?

Title article: Strings
Date: 2008-07-12 13:23:46

I agree that this is an excellent poem. That's exactly how it feels when you know you're about to lose someone that you love- it feels like falling, but not in a good and peaceful way. Good descriptions.

Title article: Something Gross
Date: 2008-07-12 13:21:16

Very juvenile, but a pleasure to read. I can't imagine anyone wanting to stick a pencil up their ass and pinch the eraser off. Is it even possible? Are your rectal muscles strong enough?

Title article: Unavoidable Detours Created By The Elderly.
Date: 2008-07-12 13:14:47

I agree with the others. This was a good little piece, quaint and simple. I particularly liked the way you described the old men's clothes as 'polite'. That's a good description. Keep it up.

Title article: Hit The Spot
Date: 2008-07-11 22:14:39

Is this kinda like "Death of a Salesman II"? That's kind of what I'm pulling from it.
You were all over the place with this story, flitting from one topic to the next. Not a good thing. Also, you really need to work on all of the spelling, grammar, and punctuation of the story.
At first, my perverted side took over when I read the title of the story. Sounded like a cheap porno. Maybe my mind is stuck in the gutter. Not sure.

Title article: The Reluctant Lover
Date: 2008-07-11 16:00:49

WOW! This was a good, twisted story. This is what good reading is all about. It's definitely going into my favorites. Keep up the good work!

Title article: Thoughts from a Loser
Date: 2008-07-11 13:01:44

Wow. You work fast! I just barely got that posted.
Thanks for the comment!

Title article: Black Tears
Date: 2008-07-11 12:42:27

Zombie and sunshine both have it right. You need to work on rhyming (I suggest the purchase of a rhyming dictionary), and you also have to work on the flow of the poem with the syllable usage.
I have no original thoughts. I've been zombified.
Anyway, I thought the message of the poem was decent.

Title article: The Eternal Force Feeding
Date: 2008-07-11 12:37:41

I'm not sure what you are being force-fed, but I can realate. We all can. We are force-fed lies and propaganda from the government, we are force fed the need for certain posessions and specific body figures from the media, and there are many more things that are fed to us on a daily basis. The worst for me is the strained peas. I hate it when mom feeds me that stuff.
Decent poem.
